![]() The Religious Studies Division offers a Master of Arts in Theology. Why study theology? The
study of theology is the cornerstone of all intellectual endeavors
because the truths that theology considers are the highest, and at the
same time the deepest, truths about God and man. Integrating
theological studies into all aspects of life serves to enhance and
broaden the horizon of human knowledge. It also gives full meaning and
coherence to all aspects of human life – including the day to day
experiences encountered in one’s profession or vocation. The
Graduate Program seeks to inform men and women, both intellectually and
spiritually, in order that they become more conformed to Jesus Christ,
who has fully revealed what it means to be human. Our challenging
curriculum and rigorous coursework open up the wellspring of the
Catholic tradition and give students the academic preparation necessary
to proclaim the Gospel reasonably and effectively. No matter what your future service to the Church or to the world, a degree in theology provides the key dimension for fruitful and authentic evangelization. ![]() Why study in the Religious Studies Division of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary? Saint
Charles Borromeo Seminary has an international reputation for its
academic rigor and faithfulness to the Magisterium. Indeed, our new
Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, who visited the Seminary in 1991,
recently commented to His Eminence Justin Cardinal Rigali, “You have a
good seminary.” Graduate students in the Religious Studies Division are taught by the same faculty who teach the seminarians. Furthermore, the curriculum is designed to offer a student a solid foundation in the study of theology. Graduates leave St. Charles with the skills to teach any high school level course and also general introductory courses at the collegiate undergraduate level. They are also well prepared to move on to doctoral-level work, should they desire to do so. “My experience with St. Charles was wonderful. As a police officer, the education that I received has improved many areas of my work. From teaching to writing reports, I have benefited from St. Charles. In teaching CCD and Confirmation I am able to use my scripture background to increase student appreciation for the Bible. And even if I never use the degree formally, the education and experience has enriched my life beyond measure. I am a far better Catholic for it.” -Walter Ferris, Police Officer
“One might think that 16 years of Catholic education would be sufficient to work with adults in their journey towards the Easter Sacraments. But answering questions about 'what and why' in the practice of our Faith often left me unable to articulate what I had faithfully lived for so many years. I began taking courses in the Religious Studies Division at St. Charles Seminary not so much for the Master Degree itself as for the certitude that my explanations echoed what the Catholic Church truly teaches. What an eye-opener the courses were! And most wonderfully, my spirituality grew along with my knowledge of our Faith! The diploma that hangs proudly in my office reminds me that I really did it after being out of college for 31 years! And, we never stop learning about our God and His infinite Love for us.”
-Theresa M. Gilmore, President Archdiocesan Association of Directors, Coordinators and Administrators of Religious Education

The program has provided me with a solid intellectual foundation and has fostered in me a deep love of Christ and His Church. Furthermore, the wisdom of the professors, the camaraderie among the students, and the prayerful environment at the Seminary all contributed in making this an experience that I will treasure forever.”

"Being
at St. Charles was like a taste of heaven on earth: classmates eager to
know our Lord more deeply, engaging faculty, beaming seminarians and
helpful librarians. What I learned opened my eyes to the extraordinary
truth, mystery and wonder of our faith. As a result of this deepening
awareness, I have found myself drawn more often to Holy Communion and
reconciliation, adoration and prayer. I can say without a doubt that my
classes at St. Charles have helped me to be a more loving wife, mother,
daughter and friend." Anne Broussard "I decided to attend St. Charles to expand my knowledge of my Catholic faith; I wound up with a heart transplant." James Garvey |
